Dear Elvis...Thank You !!

~*~
Here's the latest thing I taught myself. (With some help from Elvis)

I can SPELL in crochet!!

A few years ago I paid someone to crochet what I called a name plate (of my family name) for me for Christmas. It's made of tiny cotton thread and is framed in an 8X10 frame and used to hang in the dining room. I examined that thing a zillion times trying to figure out how to do it - because I have always wanted to learn how to make those.

Last weekend I was trying to decide what to do with the leftover 3 skeins of yarn from The Blanket Project and started crocheting. I made one row of double crochet and then skipped every other stitch between double crochet stitches - and realized I was doing just what was in that frame that used to hang in the dining room!!

Then suddenly I was making an "i" ..... I ripped everything out and started fresh.

Spelling out my last name just came to me and I whipped out the whole name till I got to the S. Could NOT figure out how to do the S.

It was 2 a.m. and I'm sure lack of sleep didn't help with figuring things out.
I don't read patterns - so no help there.
Finally I gave up and went to bed.

Monday when I went to the post office to mail the blankets, a man in front of me had on an Elvis T-shirt. I was reading all the concerts Elvis still puts on and got to looking hard at the S in Elvis.

THERE was my pattern for my name blanket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I asked the woman with him if I could borrow her ink pen and told her why- then I drew the Elvis S in the palm of my hand, copying his shirt, and there ya go!!!

Came home, sewed the pattern on my palm into the yarn and made the S in the blanket!!
